Helpful Hints

Vinegar:
Stripping old wall-paper: Use equal parts of water and white vinegar to saturate the wall paper and scrape away. Difficult areas may require scoring of the old wall-paper with a knife or sharp blade before saturation.
Salvaging paintbrushes: using the hole in the paint brush handle, suspend the used synthetic bristled brush into a jar of undiluted white vinegar. This will clean the bristles of unwanted dried on paint and prevent bent bristles.
Skin Care: When working with concrete, the lime in concrete can cause skin blistering and eczema, wash dried concrete off skin with undiluted white vinegar to neutralise the lime and then wash in warm soapy water.

Masking Tape:
Taping for painting:
Check manufacturers recommendations for details of use for best results. Where sharp line edges are required, ensure the use of a tape that seals edges to prevent paint underflow of the tape resulting in a feathery line finish. Different tapes yield different results and have different adhesion strengths.  Ensure the surface to be taped in readiness for paint is clean and dry.  Always test tape product on an area in an inconspicuous place prior to applying.

Sand Paper selection:
  • 40 Grit (very coarse) - cutting back - for rapid removal and smoothing out surface imperfections and rust removal
  • 60 Grit (Coarse) - Cutting Back -similar to 40 grit but less aggressive in application
  • 80-100 Grit (Medium) - Blending and shaping - smoothing out shallow depressions, scratches coarse sanding marks rounding sharp corners
  • 120-240 Grit (Fine) - Finishing - for removing light scratches, sanding marks, preparing surface for painting
